My name is Tanya 'Uluakiola. I'm a wife and mother, I love being barefoot in cool grass, and popcorn with lots of butter is my favourite treat at the movies.

When I was 8 years old, I got my first camera as a Christmas gift. It was a simple, fully automatic point-and-shoot Kodak, and I was beyond thrilled. At the time, I was living in Germany with my family, courtesy of Uncle Sam and the Cold War. Over the years, we traveled to Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands, even behind the Iron Curtain — places most American children would never dream of visiting, let alone get to photograph.

Many years later in 1991, I returned to the US with boxes full of memories. Tragically, all of my early photos were lost in a house fire in 1999. Devastated, I didn't take pictures of anything until four years later, when my daughter was born. I fell in love with the idea of trying to capture a moment — to freeze time.

Since then, my love of photography has gone digital, and it's the perfect complement to my love of the stunning beauty of where I live, especially our national parks. My husband is my driver and spotter, and our trips are always filled with wonder and plenty of laughter. Join us on our travels through the Western US and revel in the spectacular landscapes and scenes I capture to share with you.
